What is GCSE Science?

After School Tutoring in Oxford

GCSE Science is a key subject in the UK secondary school curriculum, studied by students typically aged 14 to 16 as part of their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).

It focuses on building a strong foundation in three core scientific disciplines, biology, chemistry and physics.

Combined Science (Trilogy)

The Combined Science GCSE, also known as Trilogy, is the most common option for students, integrating Biology, Chemistry, and Physics into a single course.

It provides a balanced introduction to key concepts across all three disciplines, including topics such as cell biology, chemical reactions, and energy transfer.

Students earn two GCSE qualifications by completing six exams—two for each science—with their final grades determined by their overall performance.

Separate Sciences (Triple Science)

The Separate Sciences GCSE, also known as Triple Science, is ideal for students who want to explore each science in greater depth.

This option awards three individual GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, covering more advanced content and additional topics compared to Combined Science.

Students take separate exams for each subject, with each resulting in its own independent grade.
