KS1 and KS2 are stages in the UK education system, specifically part of the National Curriculum for England. They represent different age groups and key learning milestones for children in primary school.
Key Stage 1 (KS1) covers children aged 5 to 7 years old and includes Year 1 and Year 2 in primary school.
During this stage, pupils study core subjects such as English, which focuses on reading, writing, and spelling, Mathematics, which introduces basic arithmetic and problem-solving, and Science, where they begin to explore fundamental scientific concepts.
KS1 Also covers:
At the end of Year 2, children take SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) in English and Maths.
Key Stage 2 (KS2) covers children aged 7 to 11 years old, encompassing Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 in primary school.
During this stage, pupils build on the subjects introduced in KS1 but study them in greater depth, developing more advanced skills such as fractions in Maths, creative writing in English, and hands-on experiments in Science.
At the end of Year 6, children take KS2 SATs in English, Maths, and occasionally Science, with the results helping to assess their readiness for secondary school.
If your child is struggling with SATs preparation, we’re here to help.
At Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, concepts like phonics, fractions, text analysis, and grammar can be challenging for many children, and parents often feel unsure how to provide effective support.
Some children may appear to be doing fine but are quietly falling behind in certain areas, while others may feel bored or disengaged because their skills are more advanced and they’re not being sufficiently challenged.
With limited feedback from schools, many parents also feel unclear about their child’s progress and whether they’re reaching their full potential.
At our Oxford tuition centre, we help children not only strengthen their knowledge in key subjects but also build confidence and a love for learning.
Through primary tuition tailored to your child’s needs, we support their growth in study skills and life skills, ensuring they’re well-prepared for SATs and beyond.
Our unique free initial assessment provides clear feedback on their progress, and you’re welcome to discuss their development with their tutor anytime.
With our support, your child can thrive academically and personally, blooming into a confident learner.
